The International Image Fest 2017 is honored to have the participation of Josh Haner as Distinguished Visiting Professor of the UAEH, being one the most outstanding American photographers, a Staff Photographer and the Senior Editor for Photo Technology at The New York Times and winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography “for his moving essay on a Boston Marathon bomb blast victim who lost most of both legs and now is painfully rebuilding his life” (The 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography, n.d.).

Mr. Haner obtained a B.S. in Symbolic Systems and a B.A. in Studio Art in 2002 from Stanford University. When he was studying, some of his works in photography were sponsored by the Beagle 2 Fellowship, the Pritzker Scholarship and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities office. He was awarded with the highest honor for a research project in the Arts from the prestigious University of Stanford, Robert M. Golden Medal for the Creative Arts for his documentary project on generational differences in a southern Kenyan Masai village. (Josh Haner: Biography and Contact, n.d.).

Mr. Haner was an assistant photo editor at Fortune Magazine, then he joined The New York Times in 2006. His photography has been published in important publications including Newsweek, Time, Fortune and Rolling Stone. Mr. Haner’s video about Jeff Bauman’s recovery after the Boston Marathon bombing won first place in the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism and second place in the Pictures of the Year International contest. He was recently selected as “One to Watch” in the September 2012 issue of American Photo magazine. Previously, he was named one of Photo District News’s 2010 Industry Players for his role as one of the founders and editors of The Times’s Lens blog. He is currently working to complete a documentary photo project on a Redwood City, Calif., trailer park where he lived for eight months through funding provided by Helen and Peter Bing.
