He is an economist who studied at the UNAM and has a PhD in Planning and Development by the University of Liverpool, England. He is a research professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) since 1980. His main interest is to articulate university projects with community works, mainly focusing on protecting the environment and the sustainable development. In 2005 he founded the Center for Sustainability “Incalli Ixcahuicopa” (CENTLI) of the UAM in Sierra Nevada. He has published several books and a wide range of articles with historical, sociological, economic and environmental topics. Currently, he is a member of the national Coordinator Water for Everyone Water for Life (Coordinadora Nacional Agua para Tod@s Agua para la Vida) and he is the general coordinator of the Research Program for Sustainability of the de la UAM.
